Streamlining SRT Distribution with Tulix StreamGate

Satellite replacement with IP for distributionMany broadcasters need to to deliver live content to affiliates but don’t want the operational headache of running it themselves. This is where our low-latency encoders and decoders and Tulix StreamGate comes in.

Simplicity to Scale

The service was created to reduce the complexity of operations for broadcasters and streaming providers distributing SRT streams to multiple affiliates.

In many small workflows, a dedicated encoder is used to send to a particular affiliate. But as operations scale, broadcasters need to send large amounts of content to multiple affiliates and monitor this effectively. There is a clear need to streamline operations.

Ingest Stream: From Many to Just One

Our partnership with Tulix enables a new workflow that eliminates the need for multiple parallel ingest streams. A single encoded SRT feed can be distributed to multiple destinations simultaneously, making the process much smoother, more efficient and cost-effective.

The workflow is based on three elements:

–          Open Broadcast Systems encoders

–          Tulix’s StreamGate platform

–          Open Broadcast Systems decoders

Let’s look at each one in turn.

The Tulix StreamGate platform

StreamGate is at the core of the workflow. This carrier-grade platform is designed to transform how live video streams are ingested, distributed, and monitored. Built for modern broadcast and OTT workflows, it enables organisations to ingest a single high-quality SRT stream, fan it out to multiple destinations in real time, and continuously monitor stream integrity with full operational visibility. It also includes a real-time observability engine that continuously analyses stream performance – tracking bitrate stability, packet loss, latency, and jitter. This enables operators to detect and resolve issues proactively, ensuring consistent quality of experience for live and on-demand audiences.

Importantly, StreamGate is deployed on Tulix’s own carrier-dense infrastructure in Atlanta, benefitting from direct connectivity to multiple tier-1 networks. This enables it to provide ultra-low latency delivery and high-throughput performance, making it ideal for live events, multi-CDN distribution, remote production workflows, and broadcast-grade streaming operations. In particular, Tulix’s own network makes it more cost-effective than using well known cloud providers.

Open Broadcast Systems Encoders and Decoders

Our high-quality, low-latency encoders and decoders are integrated at the edge of the StreamGate platform. They come in compact form factors to fit easily into any environment.

The encoders take SDI feeds and convert them to an SRT stream that is ingested into the Tulix StreamGate platform. On the other end, the decoders are used by affiliates receiving the SRT streams to convert them back to the SDI format for delivery to viewers.

Ensuring Consistent Quality of Experience

The StreamGate platform includes a real-time observability engine that continuously analyses stream performance – tracking bitrate stability, packet loss, latency, and jitter. This enables operators to detect and resolve issues proactively, ensuring consistent quality of experience for live and on-demand audiences.

Benefits

The service stands out for its simplicity and affordability, making it particularly attractive for tier-2 and tier-3 channels, including faith-based channels and foreign television networks.
